6800 Series

Narrow Pushplate

6800 Pushplate Picture 6800 Pushplate Line Art

In our last newsletter we mentioned our offset armature for use on aluminum store front doors. Another issue from the field was the lack of a heavy duty pneumatic timer pushplate that would fit into an aluminum store front frame. Over the last couple of years we have seen a huge growth in the use of switches with pneumatic timers. It seems many code officials do not trust electronic means of egress; e.g. PIR, electronic time delay buttons, etc. The addition of a non-electronic auxiliary switch to release a magnetic lock for a minimum of 30 seconds seems to satisfy that issue. Our 6290 switch provides this feature, but is meant for use with a standard one gang box.

The request for a narrow, shallow depth switch prompted us to create the 6800 pushplate that fits an aluminum frame tube. The pneumatic delay provides up to a 60 second adjustable relock delay.

Spacer Vs. Filler Plates

spacer plate pic Very often, people call and ask for a 1/2" filler plate and really need a spacer plate. What's the difference?

The spacer plate, which hasn't been around for very long (maybe 6 months), is an aluminum plate with the same pre-drilled hole pattern as the maglock. It is used to lower the lock when installing on a door with a blade stop (typically a store front door). Unless you would prefer to notch out the stop (which door hardware people say is a no-no), you need to bring the lock down so that the armature can mate properly. Spacer plates are all 1/2" thick. We have different versions for 2000, 3000, 2268, and 2500 Series Locks.

Filler plates, on the other hand, are used to "fill in" a frame. In typical steel frame installations, the maglock mounts to the stop. If the stop is not wide enough, a filler plate must be mounted to the rabbet to provide sufficient mounting surface for the lock. Filler plates are specified using the lock type and height of the stop.
